2006 Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award Reception

The Illinois Humanities Council will host a special reception in honor of the 2006 Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award recipients and nominating mayors on Wednesday, October 17, 2007.

Mayor Richard M. Daley has agreed to serve as the Honorary Chair for this exciting event. The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs is co-sponsoring the reception. They have graciously agreed to host it in historic Preston Bradley Hall, home to the world’s largest stained glass Tiffany dome and intricately decorated mosaic walls and ceilings.

This event is by invitation only. If you are a 2006 recipient or if you are a Mayor who nominated someone in your community for the award in 2006, look for a formal invitation and further details in your mailbox in the early fall. For further information, please call Phoebe Stein Davis at 312.422.5585 ext. 233.

The Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award is a biennial honor bestowed on those individuals who carry the torch of the humanities. Every other year we invite mayors throughout the state to nominate one individual (up to three in cities with populations of 100,000 or more) who has demonstrated a sustained and significant contribution to furthering public understanding of the humanities in their community. These unsung "humanities heroes" contribute to cultural life through projects related to historic preservation, heritage, adult and childhood education, and the study of arts or music.
