1900 Rockford: An American Chautauqua offers two days (Saturday 12-8pm & Sunday 12-5pm) of entertainment and learning opportunities for visitors of all ages.

The program will be based on the theme of what life was like in the year 1900…controversial military involvement overseas, fast moving technology, monopolies, immigration concerns, natural disasters…sound familar? Many of the issues and realities facing turn of the 20th Century America are still with us today.

Visitors are invited to participate in the time-honored tradition: The Chautauqua (Sha – taw’ – kwa) and experience the stories that made history . Meet famous Americans Mark Twain (Saturday), Teddy Roosevelt (Sunday), Buffalo Bill Cody and Annie Oakley (both days).

Experience a traveling Wild West Show on the Midway Village Green with two shows each day (12:30pm & 3:00pm), folk singer Mark Dvorak will sing period songs (Saturday), the history of Ragtime music of Scott Joplin and others performed by Carl Cole (Sunday) and an historic debate “Should America be the Policeman for the World” will be held Saturday afternoon.

Midway Village will also provide heritage garden tours, drama presentations in the restored 1905 Barn, 19th century children’s games and crafts, horse drawn wagon rides, tours of our 26 building living history village and hands-on history activities throughout the weekend.

This will be an event to remember with music, drama and 1900 period entertainment for everyone….

Food and snacks will be provided by Burritt Meat Products.

Admission also includes visiting the Museum Center, the Museum Store, the Old Dolls’ House Museum, and Millhouse on Lake Severin and activities above.
