We live in exciting, challenging times, and we all have a role to play in making the world a better place for current and future generations. Amy McMorrow Hunter passions revolve around educating and creating positive change in the areas of climate, renewable energy, and mental health. As a Road Scholar, she hopes to demonstrate to people in Illinois and elsewhere how to thrive authentically, living our purpose and earning a good living while nurturing nature and human health.

Presentation 1
Why and How to Cause the Change Required for Continued Human Prosperity
Climate change and other human-caused disruptions to our natural environment have resulted in measurable declines in the ability of nature to support life, including human life. Urgently, transformative change of human behavior is needed in our societies in order to reverse the decline of life on Earth.
Despite humans’ dislike of change, our denial of unpleasant facts, and proclivity to procrastinate, an unprecedented level of cooperation—fast, deep and wide—will be required to turn things around. If we stay on our current path, future generations will be left with big, untenable messes and unstable societies.
Fortunately, we have the technology we need to make the change, and it’s totally possible. This program discusses how we got here, why it’s important to act now, how we can come together as a society to make the necessary changes, and how we can work to generate consensus on complicated issues.

Program Logistics
The presentation length varies between 30-60 minutes. Each presentation will be a bit different since things are changing, local initiatives will be emphasized, and there will be an increasing number of opportunities and ways to get involved as time goes on. It may start with printouts for people but generally the presentation is designed to get people thinking and taking action. Projector and screen required.

Today’s youth know why it’s important to act now on climate change, and they have openly shown their feelings of frustration and despair towards inaction. In this presentation, we empower high school students and their supporters with the knowledge of how to come together, have the necessary conversations, and make the necessary changes.
